Italian videos on the Battle of Adua 1896
The 120th anniversary of the Battle of Adua March 2, 1896, a pride to Africa, but one observes it with mixed feelings. About 6000 Eritrean Ascaris took part in the battle on the side of the Italians. They were simply recruits in the Italian army. Of those about 2,000 were killed and 800 were captured and brutally mutilated by having their right hands and left feet amputated by the Ethiopians. The Italians were held as prisoners and were not touched. They were later repatriated.
